The Meaning of "I Had A Dream" Speech

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King was so right about this. Observe the benefit of character over the color of skin. Is there anything an individual can do about the color of their skin? Absolutely not. What about the content of their character, is that adjustable? Absolutely.

I remember years ago the Saint Louis Cardinals trading Garry Templeton for San Diego Padres' Ozzie Smith. Both were great shortstops, but which got the better deal? Some say San Diego because Templeton had a better batting average. I argue the opposite. Templeton had a bad attitude and picked fights with the players, fans and staff. Smith was a breath of fresh air! His positive attitude, enthusiasm, and being a team player had an enormous positve effect on the Cardinals.

Recently Tim Tebow was signed to the Jaguars, not as quarterback, but as a tight end. Colin Kaepernick has yet to be signed anywhere. Why is this? Content of character. Tebow has a positive influence where ever he goes. With Kaepernick there is nothing but grief.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention Brandon Burlsworth who was a walk on for the Arkansas Razorback football team. Hard work, excellence in academics, and positive attitude not only earned him a scholarship, but the love of his fans, players and staff. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts and had a phenomenal effect on the team. He never played a game as he was tragically killed in an automobile accident.

I have pointed out the positive content of character of three athletes, but what do they have in common? All three of them are and were solid, born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.
On the basis of empirical evidence, a relationship with God through Jesus Christ is the most positive character building process that could ever come upon any human being. I could not find any faith affiliation for Templeton so that doesn't speak well of atheism. Kaepernick is a Muslim, so that doesn't speak well of Islam.
The positive, wholesome and good content of character is found in Jesus Christ and all you have to do to get in on it is to BELIEVE.
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.
