One of my old friends, Jeanette, was so excited to be going out on a date with Buddy, our pharmacy delivery guy. They had been playfully flirting with each other for months while he made his delivery runs. Finally, Buddy asked her out and she happily accepted. They would be going to Ryan’s Steakhouse for dinner. I learned later that their first date would be their last.
Jeanette had brought an oversized tote bag/purse with her. Buddy didn’t think anything of it until after they ordered the buffet. Jeanette pulled out eight one-gallon freezer bags and trip-by-trip she began filling them up. She would fill her plate full of food, return to the table and dump it all in one of the bags before storing it inside her tote-purse.
“What are you doing?” Buddy asked. Apparently, he was quite shocked at what he was seeing.
“Hey, I have five kids at home,” Jeanette explained. “I can’t go out to eat and leave my babies at home hungry. I need to feed them, too.”
I heard that and laughed so hard. As brazen as she is, I could see Jeanette doing that. Now, whenever I see Buddy in town, I just crack a smile as I think of my old friend.
