The Clock Tower

Photograph showing the Town Clock on Front Street. A fire in 1841 destroyed most of the buildings in the 600 block of Front Street and the wooden structure that served as the market, was torn down to serve as a fire break. The brick building we know today, was rebuilt and the clock tower was added by 1857. The building has served as a market, City Hall, Police Station and more recently, as part of the Rice Museum.by Connie Jayroe-Owens
