Commercial Hotel 1888

An 1888 photo of the Commercial Hotel (and Wine Room), which was located at 710 Front Street in Georgetown. The hotel was built to accommodate the many northern visitors that traveled south during the winter months. A letter from the editor from the Georgetown Semi-Weekly Times, dated May 19, 1897 makes the case for a "first class, modernly equiped tourist hotel in Georgetown".
The building was torn down in 1913 and replaced with the Peerless Theatre. by Connie Jayroe-Owens
