I attended Winyah High School in Georgetown from 1962 to 1966. it seems that was a common announcement Mr. Rice would make about once a week. The Lafayette Bridge was a swing bridge which would have to be opened to allow boat traffic to pass by on the rivers.
Students from Pawleys Island and the rest of the Waccamaw Neck were brought to Georgetown. At that time the county had no high school north of the City Of Georgetown. by Tommy Howard
